Welcome to the Malala Fund

Working for a world where every girl can learn and lead.

Malala and Ziauddin Yousafzai founded Malala Fund in 2013 to make sure every girl has the right to 12 years of free, safe, quality education. Together our board, leadership council, staff and champions are creating a more equal world by making sure all girls can go to school.

The objective of the Malala Fund is to work together in order to invest in local education activists, advocate and hold leaders accountable, and amplify girl's voices.

How We Work

We don't build schools, we build networks. We accelerate our process and invest in local activists to give girls the education that they deserve. We fight to change social norms that limit the potential of girls around the world. We work with Education Champions to empower girls in different locations. Malala Fund Education Champions are individuals who have a successful track record of addressing barriers to girls' education in countries with the most girls out of school.

Afghanistan

There are 3.7 million out-of-school children in Afghanistan — 60% are girls.(UNICEF)

Bangladesh

Most girls in rural Bangladesh dropout of school after primary school, with dropout rates at nearly 42 percent.(UNICEF)

Brazil

Brazil is the world's eighth largest economy — but 1.5 million girls are still out of school.

Ethiopia

India

Lebanon

Nigeria

Pakistan

Tanzania

Turkey
